We completed a risk assessment form for each room and wrote down what we need to consider for filming in each room.
Things to consider when in locations. (RECCE)
- Lighting
- Avaliability
- Health and safety
- Getting permission
- Hazards
- Suitability
- Sound
- A second plan
- Repeat visits to check.
Amber and I are going around to look at some potential rooms to film our groups advertisement.
Here is our recce so far.
Location:
Atrium / Drama studio (south block)
Checks:
Accessibility - The room is quite big and has lot's of space to do activities in including filming and preforming. It is easy to get equipment inside e.g. camera and tripod etc which are needed for filming.
Electrics - The room has bright lighting which is natural as it is from the roof which is a see through glass roof. The room also contains extra spot lights if needed.
H&S - There may be a table or some chairs in the room , but they are easy to remove from location if not needed whilst filming.
Evaluation of the Atrium / drama studio:
The sound is good quality. There is a lot of space which will be good for extra equipment to bring in if needed. The room is quite bright which will be good for filming / interviewing the person. This room is normally free, which will be available and permission should be acceptable.
Location:
Meeting Room ( M17 )
Checks:
Accessibility - lot of space, quiet, easy to bring in equipment
Electrics - blinds to vary lighting conditions , plugs in corners
H&S - quite safe , move tables if needed.
Evaluation of the meeting room:
There is adequate space but there may be immovable obstacles in the way so it may not be good for the final filming.
Location:
T1
Checks:
Accessibility:
Quiet, spacious, surrounding computers in background, easy to bring in equipment but many table and chairs in the room / may get in the way if positioned in a certain way.
Electrics:
Bright lighting, plugs and wires behind computers.
H&S - Tables and chairs may be in the way so may not be good for final filming.
Evaluation of T1: A lot of room but cluttered with tables and chairs. Bright lighting so filming won't be so dark, and easy to get equipment in but there may be things in the way if a lesson was being held.
Location: SDC D6
Checks:
Accessibility:Quiet, quite a small room, hard for a lot of equipment but will fit a hand held camera but not the main prop which is a set of drawers.
Electrics:
No natural light but there is good artificial light so good for filming.
H&S - Its cramped so you might trip up and injure yourself if a lot of equipment used
Evaluation of SDC D6:
Too small a room, hard to get equipment in, wouldn't allow free movement of actors or Photographer, no natural light, may have to book to ensure room availability.
Conclusion:
In conclusion our team decided, that we will be filming inside the atrium, and drama room if needed.
The reason's being are that the atrium has a good source of natural lighting, its spacious and artificial lighting is still available in the atrium and drama room.
